What actually changes
Not everything, and not everywhere. The effect is concentrated on the Park and Southfields side and along the approaches to the ground, where temporary controls, suspended bays and stewarded routes appear for the duration.
The practical consequence is simple: a standing position that works for a van the rest of the year may not exist while the Championships are on. That turns a straightforward job into a long-carry job or a shuttle.
The town centre is much less affected
Busier, certainly. But its access constraints are the ones it always has — the controlled parking zone and the managing agent — and those do not change. If you are moving down the hill, the fortnight is mostly a traffic inconvenience rather than an access problem.
Why it is the busiest period of the year for removals here
Because a considerable number of households near the ground let their properties out over the same period. That produces a wave of work at both ends of the fortnight: things going into storage before, and coming back after.
If you need storage across it, arrange it well ahead. It is the one time of year when local capacity genuinely tightens.
Planning around it
A short list that solves most of it:
- Check your date against the Championships period before you commit to it.
- If you are on the park side and the date is movable, moving it a little either way usually produces an easier, cheaper day.
- If it is not movable, say so early — a shuttle or a long carry can be planned, but not improvised.
- If you are letting your own property out, book the storage run well before everybody else does.
It is not a reason to panic
We move people through it every year. The only thing that goes wrong is finding out about it on the day, and that is entirely avoidable by asking the question at the enquiry stage — which we do.
